ACI COURSE 8
Death and the Realms of Existence
There are very few things in our lives more certain than our own mortality. And by addressing it directly, we have an opportunity to prepare for the inevitable so thoroughly that the entire experience of "death" is transformed.
Join us for a course on death and the afterlife where we'll explore the Buddhist perspective on death and what follows and how you can use it to improve the life you have now.
This Course is based upon the Treasure House of Higher Knowledge (Abhidharma Kosha) by Master Vasubandhu (350 AD), along with its commentary by the First Dalai Lama, as well as sections of the Great Book of the Steps to Buddhahood (Lamrim Chenmo) by Je Tsongkapa (1357-1419).
TOPICS INCLUDE:
All of the different realms of existence and the beings inhabiting them
The 17 levels of the form realm and 4 levels of the formless realm
An explanation of: the intermediate state (bardo), the hells, craving spirits, animals, humans, pleasure beings, and formless beings
How you move from realm to realm
How and why rebirth occurs
The conditions needed for human birth
The four principles of karma
The six sufferings always present
How world systems form, evolve and are destroyed
The problems which result from not being aware of death
The advantages of cultivating an awareness of death
How to meditate on death correctly
ACI COURSES

ACI provides 18 courses that progress through the entire teachings of the Buddhist path to enlightenment in the Hinayana and Mahayana schools. The courses are provided generously by Geshe Michael Roach, who translated a large body of texts from Tibetan, and condensed a quarter century's worth of study into a 5 year cirriculum complete with homework and quizzes. It is not required to start at course 1.

WHAT YOU ARE SUPPORTING
Three Jewels is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. ACI courses at Three Jewels are offered by donation. Your donations are 100% tax deductible and support Three Jewels mission.
Our mission is to get people enlightened through the practice of yoga, meditation, and Buddhist philosophy. Enlightenment is just a fancy word for the state of mind that is at peace and happy. Everything we need to be happy comes from within, and we have the map to navigate that path.
Three Jewels serves over 5,000 students per year, offers more than 50 classes per week, and provides services to the city and internationally by giving free meditation and yoga classes to homeless families, school teachers, children, people recovering from addiction, trauma-sensitive care to refugees and earthquake survivors, and much more. It is also run almost entirely by volunteers!
Supriya Jain is a digital strategist at a recently acquired East Village startup, and discovered Three Jewels on a lunch break. She has since become a daily meditator, curious yogi, and dedicated dharma practitioner. In 2018, Supriya completed the Three Jewels 200-hour Meditation Teacher Training. That same year, she completed a rigorous study of the 15 Foundational Buddhist Courses as offered through the Asian Classic Institute, which parallels the basic core of information that a Geshe (Doctor of Theology) learns at a Tibetan Buddhist monastery. Supriya has also been the Director of the studio's Karma Yoga work-study program since the studio’s re-location at the start of 2018. Her motivation is to help others find the discipline and depthless joy of a spiritual practice that delivers extra-ordinary results. She is indebted to Three Jewels for revealing her teachers.
